Soft, chainmail with vintage filet crochet, 2025

Chainmail is cold, rigid, and made for war. It is a harsh material that protects, restricts, and endures. On the other hand, crochet is warm, inviting, and made for comfort. Combining these two starkly different materials should create tension but by joining them I create a story about strength and vulnerability. This piece is made to remind the viewer about reciprocity between hardness/softness and masculinity/femininity.
