Man in the Moon, 2024

Man in the Moon is a collaboration between Max Stone and Rora Blue. The piece originated as a poem written by Max Stone and was later visually interpreted by Rora Blue. Through this collaboration, both artists reflect on their experiences of being transgender men at different points in their transition. Man in the Moon explores what it means to simultaneously look forward and backward on a journey toward finding a more true self.

You can’t see yourself

unless moonshadow

unless glimpse — flash-cut-bang

—gone.

You have no idea what you look like.

Are you anyone?

You know who you are.

Let’s go to the moon.

Being yourself like this so much (and you are)

is already changing the world:

Ripping apart the starchy fabric 

of the Easter dresses we all had to wear,

all felt itchy and uncomfortable in.

We don’t have to do things that way.

I’m proof.

 Maybe it’s you—the man in the moon.
